Planes divertidos para hacer en familia durante el otoño

Fun things to do with your family this fall

It's official! Autumn is here. The leaves are changing color, offering us beautiful images of red and amber forests. Temperatures are starting to drop, so we can put on a warm sweater and sip a cup of hot chocolate.

Fall is a magical time of year, and there are many enjoyable activities to enjoy as a family. Discover the beauty of nature this time of year, revel in the changing seasons, and enjoy the festivities that come with it. Today we bring you five fun things for the family to do this fall.
  • Collecting autumn leaves and fruits

The change of season brings changes to nature, and it's possibly the most beautiful time of year to enjoy the forest and the countryside. The leaves turn reddish and amber, and the ground is covered with pine cones and chestnuts. It's even easier to spot animals like squirrels and owls. Therefore, a great plan is to take a nature walk with the children so they can learn about nature and play with the thousands of leaves that fall from the trees.

They can also collect leaves and fruits they find along the way. They can take them home and then make tons of crafts that they can use to decorate their home in a more autumnal way.
  • Making scented candles

Scented candles are a very pleasant addition to your home this season. In addition to their hypnotic effect and the pleasant ambiance they create at night, their scents are very pleasant, filling the entire home. If the aroma is inspired by something specific, they're great to light while reading a book or watching a movie to immerse yourself further in that universe.

Instead of buying them from a store, you can make them at home and enjoy it as a fun craft to do with the kids. You can find candle-making kits at very affordable prices. You can also create many different types of candles, shapes, or by reusing glass jars.

Choose your favorite fall scents, such as cinnamon, orange, or apple, to fill your home with the enchanting aroma of autumn.
  • Carving pumpkins

Although Halloween is a rather Anglo-Saxon holiday, it's slowly gaining popularity in Spain. In addition, most children watch cartoons and series from the United States, so as the date approaches, they watch a large number of Halloween specials and learn about the different traditions that take place during this time. Possibly the most popular is pumpkin carving.

In Spain, pumpkin fields are slowly popping up, where families can visit during this time of year to look for the best pumpkins they can find. Then, take them home and enjoy a fun afternoon of crafting and carving. First, you have to open and empty the pumpkin. Then, you can carve a scary face, or if you're feeling artistic, carve a Halloween creature.
  • Go to the forest and collect mushrooms

Autumn is peak season for mushrooms, a delicious and very healthy food that is spectacular in scrambled eggs and bacon. This fall, instead of buying them directly from the supermarket, it can be a great idea to take the whole family to the forest to look for mushrooms to cook at home. Besides being fun, children can learn many new things about all that nature has to offer.

However, it's advisable to be careful. And research the different types of mushrooms before picking or cooking them. Some are very poisonous to humans, so make sure the ones you're going to eat won't cause you any harm.
  • Watch scary movies

Autumn is also the season of witches, haunted houses, ghosts, and scary stories. So a great plan for rainy afternoons is to watch a scary movie with the family, snuggled up with a blanket on the couch.

You can look for movies with a certain spooky tone, but that are also suitable for children. At this time of year, streaming platforms prepare a collection of movies for families to watch. You can watch a film set during Halloween ( Hocus Pocus, Halloweentown, Casper …), or opt for one of director Tim Burton's masterpieces.

Fall is a difficult season for many. The return of the cold, the return of routine, and the need to spend more time at home disappoints many parents and children, who become bored and unsure of what to do. However, it's important to embrace the beauty and appeal of each season. In addition, take advantage of what each season offers to find fun plans or activities that will help create unforgettable family memories.
