Families and authorities are encouraging delaying the adoption of mobile phones among teenagers because of their impact on school performance and digital exposure. In this context, children's smartwatches are emerging as a safe and reliable alternative. This model shows that, when we listen to children, they do not just consume technology: they also know how to reinvent it.
Why a children's GPS smartwatch and not a mobile phone?
If you have thought that a mobile phone might be too soon or too risky for their age, a children's smartwatch with GPS is the ideal alternative. We went one step further: we brought the little ones together in workshops and trial sessions to hear their unfiltered opinions and turn them into co-authors of the product.
We sneaked them into our offices and made them feel part of the team: they chose strap colours, gave their views on the packaging and explained their everyday needs to inspire ideas for technological innovation. We worked on all of this with our R&D team, and it will be reflected in our next launch.
“I asked for the watch to have more colours and games because the ones before were a bit boring. Now I have a really lovely watch that I can ask anything and it answers me”.
Safety and peace of mind for the family
Children's GPS watches are designed to protect within a safe digital environment. They work as a first “mobile” without the usual risks of an early age (e.g. cyberbullying or contact with strangers).
Key features
- Precise real-time geolocation to give them freedom as they learn, with the reassurance that you always know where they are.
- Anti-bullying mode with remote listening to the surroundings in justified situations.
- Safe calls and video calls with previously authorised contacts.
-
SOS button with escalating calls and sending of real-time location:
- The watch automatically calls contact 1.
- If there is no answer, it calls contact 2.
- If there is still no answer, it calls contact 3.
- If nobody answers, it starts the cycle again until someone picks up.
- Facial unlock for more convenient use by the child.
- Anti-spam contacts list: responsible adults choose and manage the permitted numbers.
- Safe zones and a location history of the last few hours.
- No access to YouTube or social media.
As one family shared in a SaveFamily study on digital habits, “they are a good tool for locating them or staying connected”.
Innovation tailored to their needs
Their interests evolve with age. That is why we have incorporated adapted versions of WhatsApp or Spotify so they can communicate with the contacts you decide on (keeping strangers out) and listen to their favourite music.
- Artificial Intelligence that is safe, advanced and customisable, and responds quickly to their questions.
- Sports and temperature sensors to look after their health.
- Improved designs of straps and cases, and a screen with a higher-quality camera.
- Games and Class Mode, which turns it into a simple watch during school hours to avoid distractions.
Thanks to this collaboration with children, families can delay access to a mobile phone without giving up those first digital experiences in a controlled and safe environment.
