The importance of music in children's development

Rock, Sould, Classical, Jazz, Reggae, Gospel, Funk, Disco… there are as many types of music as there are types of children and types of parents.

In my case, I can't live without a little bit of rock & roll every day and my kids enjoying the music I like. So much so, that they're introducing me to other types of music that aren't my cup of tea, but I enjoy spending quality time with them every day.

Plus, they've now learned that with the SaveFamilyCam, they can listen to all the music they like whenever they want.

And…dads! We’re in luck.

Music is a magnificent instrument (and this could not be more appropriate) for cognitive, social, emotional, and affective development. But we must pay attention to the type of music our children listen to, as there is a lot of music aimed at adolescent or adult audiences that has certain themes that are not appropriate for children's needs.

United with the music and hand in hand, we find ourselves dancing when we least expect it.

I've always loved seeing how little ones move when they hear music, have a song sung to them, or simply sing (in their own language) songs they've heard in the car, at school, or on the street, and the very release of inhibitions allows them to enjoy dancing with greater freedom.

Like so many other things in development, dancing is learning. It's a practice that should be encouraged from a very young age, as there's no better way to learn than to enjoy what we do.

Have you ever thought or said the phrase: This song reminds me of that summer when… or this song reminds me of someone I know… or this song reminds me of when I was a child…

Well, these types of associations can benefit children by establishing routines for certain activities that may be a little more difficult for them, such as brushing their teeth, eating dinner, or even getting out of bed for the laziest ones.

So, you know, rhythm in your daily life and charm with the little ones!
